Disaster Recovery (DR) is a set of procedures, policies, and/or processes that enable the recovery or continuation of an organisation’s vital technology infrastructure and systems following a natural or human-induced disaster. Having the right disaster recovery plan for your organisation is essential for business continuity.

Next, you have to mind your compliance requirements as well. You will also need to decide what level of backups are available for your backup systems. And your failover site needs the same type of IT security in place as the rest of your network, including firewalls, encryption, identity and access management, intrusion prevention, etc.
Once you have your DR set up, you also need to test it, and the industry standard for DR tests is twice a year. In addition to the standard failover tests, you also need to perform stress, load, and performance tests on your production and DR infrastructure to make sure they are adequate for the expected user and request load.
